Hell on the PS3 version of Dead Island 1, the coop partners would be lucky if they could walk more than a minute without getting disconnected from the game. Riptide had issues as well on and off. I can say tho, my buddy and I did get through the original Xbox 360 copy of one with no issues. It's not a solution, but just wanted to put this out

goto the CommonRedist folder, vcredist and run both installers, that should fix your problem. as its a 64bit game you'll want to install the 64bit ones, but the 32bit should be installed as well.
